MATERIALS NEEDED FOR MAKING DIY TASSEL WREATH
- Dk weight or Worsted weight yarn in different colors. Here is the one I used.
- Craft scissors
- Embroidery hoop (7 inches)
- Cardboard or anything flat to wrap the yarn around to make tassels (7 to 7.25inches)
HOW TO MAKE COLORFUL TASSEL WREATH
- Take a cardboard the size of 7 to 7.25 inches to wrap the yarn. Wrap 23-25 times around the cardboard depending on the weight (thickness) of the yarn.
- Take out the wrapped yarn from the cardboard as shown.
- Tie the yarn at the center and cut the edges on either sides.
- Wrap the tied yarn around the hoop as shown.
- Tie the yarn to make it as a tassel around the hoop.
- Continue making tassels around the hoop.
I used 8 colors to make this DIY rainbow tassel wreath. There are 3 tassels in each color, overall 24 tassels all around. Total diameter of the finished Rainbow tassel wreath is 12 inches. This is great for Holiday decorations, Rainbow parties and kids room decoration!

Really cute! I might make one for my nephew’s room after the holidays. I especially like the step by step photos.
Thank you so much!
hi I made one rainbow tassels but it keep floping can you tell what I done wrong thank
If you follow the measurements for tassels, it shouldn’t flop. If the tassels are longer, this can happen. You can try trimming the tassels. Lmk if this works.
OMG LOVE this! Especially the colors!
Thank u so much!
How do you defy gravity when you hang it on the wall? Is it glued to a backing?
Hi Lynn, I tied a thread into a loop on the hoop(on the metal part) and hung it on a small nail. You can use small command hook too.
Do the top tassels not droop when you hang it on the wall?
It doesn’t since the length of the tassels are not that long. Hope this helps.
I just made this with 3 of my kids who are under 7 and they all managed to do it. It looks really pretty. Ours isn’t as perfect but they’re chuffed that they made it themselves. It’s so thick that it really does stay in place when hung up. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad that all of you could do it together and the kids are excited about their creation!❤️
How much yarn did you use? I’m thinking about making this for a library program and I need to know how much to buy per person. Thanks!
Each tassel is approximately 11-12yards of DK yarn. You can decide how much you require depending on the number of colors you use. Hope this helps you.
