Mood board girl's room

I’m so excited to participate in One Room Challenge again as a guest participant this Spring! If you have not heard of ORC, it is an Interior design event where a great community of participants transform a room of their choice. It’s the 10th Anniversary year which makes it even more special to celebrate creativity, inspiration and the original ideas!

The ORC was started by Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home. The event is for 8 weeks where I’ll be sharing my daughter’s bedroom makeover!

When I signed up to participate in the spring’22 ORC, I thought I’ll work on my living room and entryway. Since, I have promised my daughter that I’ll finish her bedroom first, this challenge has given me the push to finally get it done! I did share few ideas over on my instagram a few months back but never got to doing it.

Today I’ll share the mood board here and the before picture. Follow me for the next 8 weeks as I share the design process, DIY’s and fun decor elements to transform my daughter’s room to be fun, colorful yet cozy and comfortable!

Here are the before photos of the Girl’s bedroom

As I started designing the girl’s room, I wanted to involve my 8 year old daughter in the whole process. She is the one who is going to live in that room, I wanted to get her personality into the space. Yes, initially she wanted all the colors she could think of and all the decor pieces she saw in target:). I must say she is my most difficult client to this day!

Now we have come down to 3-5 colors and she is very excited to see the whole process and help me with the DIY’s.

The plan for the Fun and Colorful Girl’s room are as below

  • Paint the wall behind the bed blue
  • Paint the sliding closet doors in 2 shades of yellow with Sunrays!
  • Paint the existing red Hemnes dresser in teal and change the knobs
  • Hang the mirror
  • Hang photo ledges for books.
  • Change the lighting fixture and add wall sconces.
  • Add window treatments
  • Add bedding, decor pieces
  • Find a place to add wall hooks for bags and clothes

Even though I don’t have lot of major DIY’s planned in this room as my previous Master bedroom reveal, we still have many pieces to paint and give it a whole new look!

I will add more details going forward with each post. Next week I’ll share the plan for each week. Be sure to follow along the progress here on the blog and on my Instagram! For more design inspiration, don’t forget to follow the other participants on the ORC blog.
